The makai-bound lane of Makala Boulevard was closed Wednesday afternoon between the road’s intersection with Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Luhia Street after car batteries fell off a vehicle and spilled onto the roadway.

The makai-bound lane of Makala Boulevard was closed Wednesday afternoon between the road’s intersection with Queen Kaahumanu Highway and Luhia Street after car batteries fell off a vehicle and spilled onto the roadway.

Hawaii Police Department officers arrived on scene around 1 p.m. and assisted in directing traffic. The road reopened about 2 p.m.

Hazmat crews were called in for cleanup.
